Abstract

The aim of the article is to describe the types and functions of proper names in the vampire series of Andrzej Pilipiuk’s prose. The observations made in the study are aimed to reveal two parallel realities which are co-created by proper names. There are the reality of the Polish People’s Republic and the fantastic world represented mostly by “bionecrotic” creatures, the protagonists of the analyzed prose (vampires, werewolves, zombies). One should emphasize that the intertextual aspect of the proper names is important, too, because the names get in various and diverse relations with other texts of culture. The analysis made in the article proves the high importance of the context, both textual and culture ones, in literature onomastics research. Furthermore, the observations confirm significant complexity, specific polyphony of the popular literature. Important is the reader, too, constituting one of the links of the proper names functioning in the world of literature.
