Bru-net. Co nowa proza polska „robi” z odmianami stylowymi polszczyzny?

Abstract

The paper takes up polemics with the typologies of stylistic variants of contemporary Polish, existing in the linguistic literature (first of all, with the canonical, modernised typology by Alexander Wilkoń from 2000). Using the literary material of the new prose (after 1989), the author points out that the language of literature, annexing and at the same time destroying particular functional styles, constitutes a kind of a “shock” to the bases of thinking on stylistic diversity of Polish. In the author’s opinion, hitherto existing typologies and classifications of stylistic variants call for verification and modernization of the description. Instead of the centralistic typology (in the centre there is one distinct variant – colloquial language), the author suggests a classification based on polycentric variants, in which a clear differentiation of styles will be replaced by their unification. A contemporary pattern of stylistic variants is, in the author’s opinion, a unified field organized around non-autonomous centres (such as the language of the media, colloquial, artistic or scientific language), only to a certain extent standing in opposition to some sociolects and the languages of youth subcultures.
