Językowe reprezentacje smutku, złości i depresji w afazjografii literackiej (na przykładzie Wołgą przez Afazję Karoliny Wiktor)

Abstract

This paper attempts to capture the linguistic representations of sadness, anger and depression in the speech of a person with aphasia as the creator of an autobiographical narrative form, which I call aphasiography. The material for analysis (metaphors, phrases, vocabulary) was taken from Karolina Wiktor’s aphasiography Volga through Afazja and from interviews given by the author. The aim of the article is to present the specificity of the linguistic expression of sadness, anger and depression in the contexts of brain mechanisms of emotions after a cerebral incident and cognitive research on mental schemas. The research framework was created by cognitive linguistics (the theory of metaphors by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson) and classical philological analysis.The analysis showed that the linguistic representations of sadness, anger and depression in Karolina Wiktor’s aphasiography are based primarily on conventionalized spatial and ontological metaphorical models that are readable to an average user (wrong is down). However, they are supplemented by an individual perspective – based on organic foundations of the experience of aphasia – which creates a unique perspective on expressing emotions and viewing reality. Lexical philological analysis (hyperbole, synonymy, emotional character, semantics) confirms the semantic overlap of sadness, anger and depression, which is not only an expression of individual imagination, but is confirmed by clinical diagnoses in the field of psychology and psychiatry.
