Obraz wojny w „Faraonie” Bolesława Prusa

Abstract

The article is devoted to the lexis related to war and military issues in Faraon by Bolesław Prus. The novel proves to be a rich source of lexical material which allows drawing a conclusion that the army plays a significant role in the development of the plot. It has a supporting role which frequently becomes the author’s main point of interest. The variety of lexical material manifests itself in a twofold manner. On the one hand, the set is abundant; still, on the other hand, some of the lexemes occur with increased frequency. Prus uses battle vocabulary to describe particular soldiers and military formations, to describe the weapons and battle scenes, i.e. military manoeuvres in volume one and the battle on the desser, in volume two.
