Tradycje badawcze w leksykologii a semantyka rozumienia

Abstract

Within the so-called methodological “migration of ideas”, the paper analyses three dilemmas of contemporary lexical semantics. Firstly, the confrontation of a structuralistic paradigm (and a semic analysis within its range) with Fillmore’s theory of frame semantics offers greater possibilities for a semantic description of a word in the cognitive paradigm. Furthermore, the domination of semantic fields by structuralism (interpretation of a word “inwards”, within the field) has lost initial perspective in Humboldt’s theory, in which the structure of the field is correlated with the notion system (the field is the evidence for the external way of categorization of the world in relation to the language). Thirdly, the evolution of the initially structuralistic conception of a semantic connotation has led to the “encounter” of structuralistic and cognitive thinking, in which the meaning of a word is not exclusively the conjunction of semantic features, but has a form of a prototype, typical of the cognitive approaches.
