Abstract

The paper constitutes the first part of the work devoted to the language creation of a Cossack in “Ogniem i mieczem” by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The article comprises a diversified and rich repertoire of language means to present the members of a Cossack community. A structural-semantic and stylistic analysis of the gathered material showed, among other things, the appearance of numerous synonyms, derivatives, expressively (positively and negatively) marked forms, and metaphoric names. A very important aspect of the presentation of the described social group embraced different means of an evaluation.
