O stylistycznym zróżnicowaniu idiolektu (na przykładzie tekstów Karola Wojtyły – Jana Pawła II)

Abstract

The first part of the paper is an attempt at ordering the terminology connected with language and individual style. According to the suggestion, made in the text, an idiolect (individual language) is regarded as a whole of an individual’s linguistic competence while an idiostyle (individual style) – a store of means used by speaker in his utterances of a definite type, i.e. his competence within a given functional variant. A set of features present (very often in different variants) in more than one idiostyle determines the specificity of an author’s idiolect. The second part of the article discusses main features of particular functional variants represented in Karol Wojtyła’s (John Paul II’s) written idiolect: an artistic, scientific, journalistic, rhetorical, colloquial and official-formal idiostyle. The final part includes the most important characteristics belonging to more than one variant, and being typical of Wojtyła’s individual language.
