Abstract

The article concerns press headlines in the angling press such as “Tygodnik Wędkarski”, “Wędkarski Świat”, “Wędkarstwo – moje hobby”, “Wędkarstwo”, “Wędkarz Polski”, and “Wiadomości Wędkarskie”. Strategies of headlines’ selection, their structure and advertising function as well as ways of gaining recipients have become a subject of research interest here. It has been found out accordingly that angling press headlines are linguistically diversified. They usually summarize an opinion, sometimes express author’s emotions, occasionally suggest specified actions by way of implication, or appeal to recipient’s knowledge or feelings. They may take a form of a sentence typical of a journalistic style, an elliptical sentence, or a single word of a formal and semantic structure conditioned by the context.
