The text analyzes the functional role of the garden in the novels of Dževad Karahasan, both as a center or the starting point of the plot and as a motivational force of the characters. Also, since the garden in Islamic culture is a place of accentuated semantic and symbolic values, this paper indicates the places of possible coincidence with the Eastern Garden, which, as a rule, attempts to be the earthly picture of the Eden, that is, the concrete realization of the ideal garden. Finally, the paper examines the garden with respect to its post-modernistic meaning – the garden, and a library or labyrinth are the usual topics in postmodern texts, and Karahasan’s novels are the most important postmodern novels of Bosnian literature. Bearing all this in mind, it can be said that in his novels, Dževad Karahasan unites eastern philosophy and religion with the Western postmodern poetics, and gives gardens a very specific, his own semantic value.pl
