Argumentation is regarded as a means of influencing and reshaping the addressee’s worldview through logical reasoning, evaluation, and persuasion. The study examines communicative-cognitive and axiopragmatic dimensions of argumentation and identifies the pragmatic contexts in which alethic and deontic utterances are actualized. The research applies cognitive, pragmatic, and evaluative approaches combined with the method of speech-act interpretation. The empirical material includes approximately two hundred evaluative utterances extracted from contemporary British and American fiction. The results demonstrate that alethic argumentation is predominantly realized in monologic macrocontexts aimed at establishing truth, whereas deontic argumentation mainly functions in dialogic interaction focused on persuasion and justification of action. The analysis also reveals the role of evaluative and emotional means in shaping argumentative discourse and influencing the interlocutor’s cognitive and axiological positions.pl
W badaniu zastosowano podejścia kognitywne, pragmatyczne i aksjologiczne połączone z metodą interpretacji aktów mowy.
