Pozorne ekwiwalenty jednowyrazowych konwencjonalnych metafor faunicznych w języku polskim i włoskim

Abstract

The paper contains the analysis of pseudo-equivalents of single-word faunal metaphors in Polish and Italian. The focal issue is the description of relations between such units so that the classification could be proposed. As a result of the analysis the following groups can be distinguished: pseudo-equivalents proper: faunal terms of different figurative meanings in Polish and Italian; faunal terms with a different number of non-identical meanings in the languages compared; faunal terms with a different number of figurative meanings, one of which is identical; potential pseudo-equivalents: faunal terms having figurative meanings in one language only, i.e. in Polish or in Italian. The analysis shows that the relations between pseudo-equivalents of single-word conventional metaphors are very сотріех. In many cases bilingual dictionaries do not contain the figurative meaning of a given unit or they contain only one of several meanings. Therefore, further research on pseudo-equivalents of terms at issue is very important from the point of view of language teaching, lexicography and translation studies.
