Z badań nad filozoficznoprawnymi aspektami liberum veto

Abstract

The institution oi liberum veto was one of the most characteristicfeatures of Polish parliamentary system before 1795. Accordingto it, one single MP was entitled to veto any bill, which was discussed by parliament (Sejm). This right was used for the firsttime by MP Władysław Siciński in 1652. After this event many Polish parliaments were broken down by veto. The article describes liberum veto as an element and product of political culture of noblemen in Polish Republic. In this context it was one of the most important components of so called „golden noble freedom", based on republican values. Other values referred to democracy, freedom, equality, brotherhood and tolerance.
