Abstract

In 1879 Pope Leo XIII acknowledged philosophy of saint Thomas Aquinas as a ground, on which the Catholics should build their values. As a result, so called social encyclical confirm that there isclose connection between property law and natural law. Ali ofthem referto saint Thomas and try tofind confirmation of this thesis. Accordingto Thomas, law of nature does not make any distinctions between different kinds of property. The Catholic Church's views on property law are adapted to changing social conditions. According to different needs, the most important question deals with the problem of common using the property or with the problem of everybody's right to private possession. When the Catholic Church evaluates individualistic views on property, then it stresses that material goods are for everybody. Contrary, when the individual rights to property are in danger, the Church prevents them from the attacks.
