Mickiewicz unicki. Kilka hipotez

Abstract

This article explores Adam Mickiewicz’s connections with Greek Catholic culture and ritual practices. It begins by examining the introduction of the Julian calendar in territories incorporated into the Russian Empire after 1795, along with the official standardization of religious calendars and its implications for literary and cultural historiography. The discussion then reviews the current state of research on the Union of Brest, the presence of Uniates in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the treatment of the Uniate question in Mickiewicz studies. The core of the analysis focuses on manifestations of the Uniate theme in Mickiewicz’s biography, literary works, and political thought. The findings suggest that further research is needed to recover the memory of this (almost) forgotten Uniate heritage.
