Kulturozofia Łesi Ukrainki: między modernizmem a „neoromantyzmem”

Abstract

The article presents an outline of the functioning of the ideology and aesthetics of Modernism and the accompanying trends in Ukrainian literature, as the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Ukrainian literature brought a noticeable change in social concepts of literature and art, and new philosophical and cultural paradigms were then formed. The new generation of writers also include Lesya Ukrainka, an outstanding writer, poet and playwright. Together with the first Modernists, she updated the language of new art in accordance with the laws of national development, emphasizing the supreme value of the creative personality. Lesya Ukrainka represented the search for her own poetic style and artistic meanings, she was inspired by the trends present in the Ukrainian national environment of that time, but did not join any of the aesthetic schools. Her aesthetic views were broader than any literary movement or group, they did not fit in with “any -isms”. The poet discovered the unknown topics, motifs, images, genre systems and stylistic means, thus contributing to the emergence of a new trend – Neoromanticism (termed by the author “Noworomanticism”). Later, the writer also formulated theoretical assumptions for this aesthetic system.
