Czy Sonia jest nieśmiertelna? O śmierci w tomie Sonia zmienia imię Teresy Radziewicz

Abstract

Thanatological problems in the first volume, entitled Sonia zmienia imię (Sonia changes her name) by Teresa Radziewicz, are seemingly not the most important ones. The more amazing is the role that this topic plays in the first poetic period of the poet from the Podlasie region. Death becomes here a discreet, subtle subject. The author uses it as a way of exploring the mystery of life, as well as describing it. The main character of the poetry book is portrayed as a part of nature, the world of harmony and order known from the Arcadian project. Her life is based on metamorphosis, on maturing to the most difficult wisdom, which is the meaning of life revealed in its end, in death. However, the poet does not use either dramatic or apocalyptic imaging – she shows death as an integral part of existence, and she creates her heroine as a universal figure, capable of exhibiting the crucial anthropological, philosophical, existential, and eschatological problems. Radziewicz refers to religious and philosophical themes, but also to literary and artistic ones. Death in Sonia is a metaphor of life understood as transformation, maturing, preparation for learning the ultimate truth, returning to the place of origin.
