| Abstrakt: | The introduction of the principle of mutual recognition in EU Justice and Home Affairs co-operation has been associated with a “revolution” in internal security co-operation and has raised as many expectations as concerns. This article aims at analyzing the origins of this principle of mutual recognition. This will be done in the context of the European cooperation in criminal matters and the project of a European criminal law. |

| Nota biograficzna: | Andrzej Sakowicz is an Adjunkt in the Department of Criminal Law at the University of Białystok (Poland), where he obtained his PhD degree. His research interests lie primarily in judicial cooperation in criminal matters in the European Union (the principle mutual recognition, the principle ne bis in idem, the European arrest warrant, the European evidence warrant) criminal law, criminal procedure and human rights (especially the right to privacy). He is the author of some sixty publications, a member of the Foundation for Polish Science and a Max Planck Fellow (2004, 2006 and 2007). |
