Abstract

The present text creates the analysis of the opinions which were formulated on the grounds of Polish historiography after 1989 and referred to the circumstances of the takeover of power by Bolsheviks in Russia. The general conclusion which results from the research can be led to the statement that in the recent years a unitary perception of the Russian October has not been worked up by Polish historiography. For example, the matter of argument is still the problem of terminology which is supposed to be used in relation to the processes. Between 1989-2006 Polish historiography did not reach the agreement about the answer to the question if there is one effective scheme allowing to explain the occurrence of the Russian October. Most of the authors thought that the best results could be achieved by complementary treatment of different research perspectives, however, some scholars explicitly referred to the so-called theory of continuation. The answer to the question if the October should be considered in terms of the end of a democratic experiment, which was commenced in Russia a few months earlier, is also ambiguous. If we consider the issues which did not arise any principal controversy in Polish historiography, we should mention the opinion that Russian involvement in the World War I had activated the processes which dynamic appeared to be damaging to the preceding system. A few authors also agreed about the example that Nicholas II had fulfilled the analogous role to that one of Luis XVI at the beginning of the French Revolution, however, further connections to the French pattern occurred sporadically.
