Jack Kerouac i emotywne aspekty języka jako przejaw prozy spontanicznej

Abstract

Jack Kerouac, American writer and a member of the Beat Generation, explored in his works and later developed a unique creative method, which he named spontaneous prose. His first novel created in that experimental way, was the famous On the Road. However, a more radical example of that is Visions of Cody. Both pieces of writing are reflections of the author's creative manifesto, namely Essentials of Spontaneous Prose and Belief & Technique for Modern Prose. Characteristics of the language used by Kerouac are: a peculiar emotiveness, concentration on breath taken from jazz music, non-interfering into previously written pieces, omission of punctuation or its conversion into pauses, which resembles instrumental phrases in jazz. When juxtaposing both novels, the conclusion that occurs is a conversion in the creative process and Kerouac's language, focusing on a conscious approach to the idea of secondary orality.
