Od rozpaczy do euforii, czyli o sposobie wyrażania emocji w Sylorecie Wacława Potockiego

Abstract

The paper aims at analyzing the way of expressing extreme emotions in the language of the 17th century romance Syloret by Wacław Potocki. In the author’s opinion, the study of the means of expressing feelings in a literary work creates new possibilities for a linguistic quest within broadly understood stylistics. On the example of the heroes’ specific behavior, the author tries to show a repertoire of stylistic means which served the poet to express emotions in language. The author of the paper also emphasizes the fact that the ways of expressing emotions with verbal means, the study of the structure of expressions and of the literary characters’ behavior, constitute a vital element of the poet’s literary style. They enable the acquaintance with his outlook on the world, his system of values and assessments.
