Abstract

Members of the Muslim Parish in Gorzów Wielkopolski formed the most numerous group of the Polish Tatars in the Western and Northern Territories after the Second World War. They introduced a solid element into the multiethnic aspect of these territories, as well as into their reconstruction after the war damages. Within time, the members of the Muslim Parish in Gorzów began to assimilate. In order to stop this process, the Tatars tried living in one group and place. As a consequence, at the end of the 1960s, a process of migration of the Tatars to the Podlasie region began. They would usually choose Białystok as their home, with the mosques located in nearby Kruszyniany and Bohoniki. Those who had stayed in Gorzów, found themselves on the margin of the religious life of the Polish Tatars. the death of Bekir Radkiewicz and Rozalia Aleksandrowicz in 2008 was the great loss for the Muslim Parish in Gorzów Wielkopolski. As a result, the Muslim Parish in Gorzów Wielkopolski ceased its activity and eventually was disbanded in 2012.
