Dwudziestoletnia przyjaźń na odległość. Listy profesora Tadeusza Kowalskiego do akademika Ignacego Kraczkowskiego

Abstract

Ignatiy Krachkovskiy (1883–1951) – a father of Soviet Arabic Soviet Studies, led a very extensive correspondence, practically with the entire orientalist world, including Polish scholars. His epistolary legacy is stored in the Branch Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. Prof. Tadeusz Kowalski’s (1889–1948) letters, which have never been a subject of any research, are catalogued the inventory with number 450. The file consists of 34 letters and 31 postcards and two tickets cards (the collection includes correspondence produced between September 1924 and November 1947). The first letter and two postcards are written in French and the others are written in the Polish language. The article is aimed at analysing the correspondence content that is an invaluable source of knowledge about Polish orientalism environment and the condition of Oriental Studies in Poland in the interwar period and after World War II. It presents the nature of scientific cooperation that started between those two scholars.
