Elżbieta Czyżewska po obu stronach Atlantyku – czyli ukradziona autobiograficzna narracja

Abstract

Polish-American actress, Elżbieta Czyżewska, has many times had people make a public spectacle of her life, her biography appropriated for others’ gain several times before her passing in 2010, her Polish accent used to both rationalize the discrimination she faced as an actress in America as well as set the turning point in narrating her life as a fallen star, her love life set as a stage by which others cast her in the role of a woman ’given to histrionics,’ overlooking the political contexts in which she had to make a life-changing decision in following her husband to America and thus emigrating from Poland. Using feminist notions and approaches, this article re-examines the contexts in which the aforementioned dynamics factored into and gave way to such narratology of Czyżewska’s life story, undermining them in their own debacle.
