Abstract

A Russian contemporary writer Oleg Pavlov in one of his stories "The end of century" focuses his attention on the problem of homelessness in Moscow. The author describes hospital workers’ attitude towards a homeless man who needs some help and medical care. Unfortunately, nobody, except for one nurse, treats him like a human. The work’s atmosphere is mostly depressing. However, there are moments of great humanity in this story, for Pavlov gives a voice to every human being, even the most pathetic. What’s more, he uses the threads of the Bible to show hopelessness in a situation when nothing of value remains.
