„Tylko mi Ziemi całej do życia brak”. O bezdomnościach Andrzeja Babińskiego

Abstract

The article presents diverse aspects of homelessness in the life and the literary output of Andrzej Babiński. At the beginning of the text the author recall the poet’s birthplace. Next she writes about the divorce of his parents and his move to Poznań. The author of "Candle" spent all his adult life living in one room with his father. This place could not have been qualified for being a genuine home as it did not provide the feeling of calmness and safety. It was neither a place for rest not for work. Not having felt well in a flat Nad Wierzbakiem 1 the Poet was searching for substitution. On 1968-1970 he was undergoing substitution therapy in Krystyna Orłow literary-artistic lounge, then in 1970s he hung out in dormitories “Zbyszko”, “Hanka”and BWA Club. In 1982 the head office of “Radio Merkury” was his part-home. Actually Poznań had never become his home town. The Poet accused Poznań of being alien, hostile, antagonistic and lifeless. According to Babiński, the city-upon-Warta resembled a prison or a labyrinth. Babiński could not find a proper place in the world around him. He felt mismatched. He called himself a vagrant, wanderer, passer-by, orphan. He believed that the experience of homelessness is one of paramount determinants of human existentialism.
