Abstract

The purpose of this work is presenting a short history of the Mass based on selected examples of musical works from various periods. The presentation is carried out with an interdisciplinary perspective, taking into account the religious dogma on one hand, and its artistic interpretation on the other. The thesis of this work is focused on the problem of the changes of the kind of Mass in the dialectic connection of the sphere of sacrum, i.e. that which is divine, supernatural, offered, universal- with the sphere of profanum, comprising that which is human , natural, worked out, and individual. The leitmotif of this work is the idea of the dialogue of the man-creator, acting either as an individual or as a member of a community- with God, the only author of all creation.
