Abstract

An analysis of Kazanie sejmowe of Archbishop Józef Teofil Teodorowicz allows us to discover the riches of his spiritual program. The Preacher expresses his gratitude to God for His acceptance of the sacrifice of blood made by the Polish nation throughout centuries, the sacrifice for Poland. He also expresses his grateful ness to the numerous heroes fighting for freedom, as well as to all sons of Poland who were patient, hard working, and attached to the national tradition. He expresses his gratefulness also to the Church, who has been supporting freedom for ages, and to her powerful representatives demanding rights for Poland on the international arena. The Preacher emphasizes the historical justice, apart from gratitude to God and people, as a reason for regaining the national freedom and autonomy. He encourages implementing the principles of justice also with in the community. He mentions the need for co-operation and joint responsibility of nations. He expects from the neighbouring countries the honest settlement of right borders of Poland, and their consolidation in the name of the common good. Moreover, he expects Poland to take part in the defence of Europe against the ideology of communism. He demands patriotism from the Nation, patriotism expressed by prayers for the intention of their Fatherland, by hard work and solicitude of the higher affairs. He expects the responsibility of deputies for decisions they take, and treating the State and common affairs as more important than those of their parties or their own. He expects solidarity and co-operation from the whole society as well as an equal, just treatment of all estates. lt can be said that Kazanie sejmowe of Archbishop Teodorowicz become the action program for the Parliament and the Nation and for their code of moral behaviour in relation to God, Fatherland and other com patriots. Kazanie sejmowe of the 2nd of February 1919 is a great homage of Archbishop Józef Teofil Teodorowicz paid to all ancestors and present heroes, to all sacrifices made volutarily on the Fatherland's altar.
