Eléments sémantiques ajoutés par le préverbe dans les correspondants polonais du verbe tomber

Abstract

Most Polish equivalents of the French verb 'tomber' are the prefixed verb constructions with the base 'paść/padać', which include a semantic feature of the 'vertical orientation' and 'downward direction'. In this paper, we discuss six uses of 'tomber' and their Polish equivalents. We provide a study of six preverbs: na-, po-,pod-, przy-, roz- and za-, attempting to show the semantic components which each of them adds to the verb base in Polish, and next, we try to establish which parts of the co-text of the French verb carry the same semantic information.
