Folklor w polskim teatrze lalek - między ograniczeniem a wyzwoleniem wyobraźni

Abstract

The title of the article refers to the discussion about the function of folklore in the Polish puppet theatre, which took place in Poland at the end of the 1980s. Inspirations with folklore in the theatre in the second half of the last century resulted in the creation of a strong trend of colorful shows, which were a repository of traditional art, as well as cultural memory, and represented the puppet national style. Meanwhile, the most interesting artistic dialogue with folklore it has been and still is today in authors theatre projects. The article presents selected phenomena in the Polish puppet theatre, in which folk culture has become a source of new theatrical concepts in the field of material performance, animation, actors expression, and anthropological dimension of performances. The reflection focuses on the work of Jan Wilkowski and Adam Kilian, Jan Dorman and the Wierszalin Theatre.
