„Co nie jest drukiem uświęcone”. Zygmunt Gloger a etnografia przedtekstowa

Abstract

The paper analyses selected fragments of the works by Zygmunt Gloger in the context of oral history and ethnographic research. The author explores the role that, according to Gloger, was played by printing (typography) in attempts to pre- serve and popularise the knowledge of Polish and Slavic folk culture. He further proposes that “the antiquarian from Jeżewo”, although generally referred to as a writer, treated his empirical work as a way to become an active part of the culture he observed - to shape it and let himself be shaped. This is what made Gloger differ from other 19th century positivist scholars, engrossed in the need for objective observation and distancing towards the object of investigation.
