| dc.description.abstract | Lithuanian folklore, considered to be one of the richest in Europe and remarkable among Slavic popular topoi, plays a significant role in unveiling the diversity of Lithuanian-Polish cultural relations. Juxtapositions of Lithuanian and Polish folklore are coded in literary texts and pertain to imagology, bilingualism and ‘small homeland’. Explorations of Lithuanian folklore may be revealing to comparative discourse, cultural and interdisciplinary studies. Vivid contrasts between Lithuanian and Polish elements emerge in the poetics of Maironis or Juozapas Albinas Herbačiauskas as well as in the works of secondary writers (Ksaveras Bogušas, Liudvikas Adomas Jucevičius and others), who remain hidden in the history of Lithuanian literature. Lithuanian folklore has always played a vital role in fostering Lithuanian-Polish cultural relations. Apart from Maironis and Herbačiauskas, a mention should be made of key figures such as Adam Mickiewicz, Antanas Baranauskas, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Wanda Dobaczewska, Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna, Czesław Miłosz and Tadeusz Konwicki. The issues considered in the present paper require scientific synthesis and further study. | pl |
