„Sońka” jako miejsce pamięci – relokacje i „przeredagowania”

Abstract

This article examines “Sońka”, both Ignacy Karpowicz’s novel and its protagonist, as a site of memory, focusing on the processes of relocation and “rewriting” that structure the narrative. Drawing on theories of cultural memory, conflicted memory, and multidirectional or wandering memory, and engaging, among other sources, with the work of Aneta Prymaka-Oniszk, the article investigates the ways in which individual and collective memories are transformed, displaced, and renegotiated. It identifies six forms of relocation in Sońka, understood as shifts in meaning that involve acts of renaming and reinterpretation. These include Igor’s relocation from Warsaw to Królowe Stojło; Sońka’s relocation from Królowe Stojło to Warsaw; her movements across temporal as well as spatial dimensions through returns to the past; metaphysical relocations associated with death; linguistic relocations manifested in acts of literal renaming; and relocations of Sońka into other artistic and literary works. Through these interconnected processes, Sońka emerges as a distinctive “knot of memory” in which multiple narratives, identities, and historical experiences converge and intersect.
