Abstract

This article examines the category of movement in the poetry of Vasyl Stus, one of the foremost representatives of the Ukrainian Sixtiers generation, and demonstrates how it functions as a fundamental principle shaping both the semantic and formal dimensions of his work. Drawing on an interdisciplinary approach that combines literary analysis with insights from cultural studies, movement is interpreted as a dynamic process through which subjectivity is constituted under conditions of political oppression. Rather than leading toward a specific destination in space, this movement unfolds within an ethical and metaphysical horizon, opening up the possibility of transcending the experience of suffering. Through an analysis of selected poems, the article argues that Stus deliberately structures his work around the principle of perpetual movement. In this context, movement performs a dual function: it serves as a strategy of epistemological resistance to the static vision of reality imposed by the totalitarian system, while simultaneously constituting a mode of existential endurance grounded in the continuous transgression of the boundaries of the self.
