Abstract

Victor Pelevin’s novel “Buddha’s Little Finger”, published in 1996, is the subject of an analysis in the present paper. The author of the article outlines factors which, on the one hand, have influenced a commercial success of this literary work and, on the other hand, have increased an interest among literaturę specialists. The author of the paper assumes that a great success of the novel is the result of Pelevin’s ability to combine philosophical aspects with clear, original form, his skill to join incompatible ideas and features of elite and mass literature. Finally, a reader obtains the satirical and grotesąue picture of Moscow in the nineties of the last century, easily recognizable in fine details.

Предметом анализа в настоящей статье является опубликованный в 1996 г. роман Виктора Пелевина “Чапаев и Пустота”. Главным образом рассматриваются факторы, которые повлияли, с одной стороны, на коммерческий успех произведения, а с другой — на интерес к нему литературоведов. Автор статьи приходит к выводу, что успех романа связан прежде всего с умением Пелевина соединить философское содержание с яркой, оригинальной формой, совместить несовместимое, массовое и элитарное и в итоге создать сатирически-гротескную, но и узнаваемую читателем картину Москвы девяностых годов прошлого столетия.
