Abstract

Victor Pelevin’s novel The Sacred Book of the Werewolf, published in 2004, is the subject of an analysis in this article. The main purpose of the paper is to present a romantic, unusual relationship between A Huli and Sasha the Grey. She is a female fox – one of an ancient and magical race who have passed unnoticed in the world of man for millennia. A Huli is over two-thousand years old and uses her abilities (she can induce hallucinations) to work as a prostitute. Sasha the Grey is a member of the Federal Security Bureau (the new K. G. B.). He is a werewolf. The author of the article underlines Pelevin’s ability to combine Eastern philosophy with Russian literary tradition, his skill to join incompatible ideas and features of elite and mass literature.
