Dyftongi w systemie fleksyjnym gwar północnej Hajnowszczyzny

Abstract

Diphthongs in the inflexional system of East Slavonic dialects in the area of Hajnówka are discussed in the article. In the linguistic material under consideration heterogeneous sonants ie (ye), uo appear in declension, inflexion of adjectives and pronouns. Their presence in substantival inflexion is of regular character and is strictly connected with the place of stress in a word form. Old vowels ĕ, ō appear in diphthong-like form only in a stressed position (ĕ > ie (ye), ō > ub), in an unstressed position they undergo reduction to i, u. Genitive singular adjectives of feminine gender d'obroi̯ie, čyrv'onoi̯ie, хоr'оšоi̯iе are the exception to the above rule.
