Abstract

In linguistic literature the preposition is one of the most controversial and complex part of speech. It may be analyzed from the point of view of lexicology as an entry of a dictionary as well as grammar - considering the syntactic functions it performs. Variable interpretation of the preposition is also influenced by the semantic and formal independence from the context. In the present article the author’s attention has been concentrated on the problem of linguistic status of the preposition, on the specific features of its meanings and grammatical functions.
