Abstract

The author of the article emphasizes that Polish motives in Fiodor Tiutczew’s poetry reflect his political views as a man, diplomat and statesman, who was professionally bound up with this field of activity, working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Russia. He took interest in Polish problems on condition they related to the political and diplomatic concerns of Russia. Being an advocate of his country’s cause, Tiutczew treated insubordinate Poland as the impediment on his homeland’s route to becoming a world power, which he expressed in a number of poems about Poland and the Poles.
