Abstrakt: The article analyzes personal names that appeared in the Soviet times. The material for investigation was taken from “Толковый словарь языка Совдепии” (1998). The material includes 106 lexical units (54 male names, 52 female names). Personal names are analized with special attention paid to their semantic meaning and morphology. It can be concluded that the most productive morphological way of word formation belongs to abbraviation. Thanks to this method 24 male names and 14 female names, which is 35,84% of all personal names were formed. Suffixes also took part in the formation of names - 18 which is 17% of the whole collected material. This method was the most productive when female names were formed. The least productive method was setting the stems together. As a result of setting the stems together only 3 persoanl names were formed. In the material we have collected, special attention must be directed to quantity proportion between male and female names. In the Soviet times the balance in the formation of male and female names was present.
