Abstract

In the article the author attempts to give genealogical and specific characte ristics of the main hero mentioned in the titles of the novels by V. Voynovich as well as to define his position in the unusual word of the compositions. In order to do that similarities and differences between Ivan Chonkin and his literary and folklore ancestors are enumerated. Such comparison results in the conclusion that the crucial role of the hero is to show abnormality and ugliness of the Soviet world which was presented in the novels by V. Voynovich.
