Egzystencjalny wymiar metafraz psalmów Teofana Prokopowicza

Abstract

Tradition of metaphrases in psalms was started in Russian literature by Symeon Polotsky and his «Psałterz rymowany». Next steps on the way paved by the monk from Polotsk were taken by Teofan Prokopovich who translated three biblical hymns (Psalm 36, Psalm 72 and Psalm 90). The author of the article aims at examining what factors may have influenced the choice of the above subject-related psalms. In the course of her analysis she proves that the interest put on these psalms may have resulted from the atmosphere of the epoch in which Prokopovich produced his literary works, from its philosophy and ideological search directions. The crucial factor of the choice, in the author’s opinion, is connected with personal as well existential experience of the poet.
