| Abstrakt: | The question of ordained ministry remains one of the most complex and debated topics in the contemporary theology. It touches both on the apostolicity of the Church and on the continuity of the Christian testimony since its origins. While all Churches claim to live in fidelity to the apostolic teaching, their understandings of ministry still differ profoundly. The first ecumenical conferences sought to identify the common foundations of ecclesial ministry. They recognised it as a gift from Christ, animated by the Holy Spirit, in the service of preaching, the sacraments, and the leadership of the community. Despite these convergences, the major differences remain in the understanding of ministerial authority, the nature of ordination, and apostolic succession. Subsequent dialogues have deepened these questions. The document The Catholicity and Apostolicity of the Church (1970) highlighted three essential elements: apostolic teaching, apostolic ministry, and life in conformity with the Gospel. These convergences acknowledge the continuity of ministry with its origins, while calling for constant purifi cation and renewal under the action of the Spirit. The ordained minister acts in the name of Christ to build up the community, not possessing personal authority but exercising his service in communion with the whole people of God. More recent documents have emphasised the importance of the relationship between the local Church and the universal Church. The bishop, successor of the apostles, is seen as a sign of unity and fidelity to the apostolic tradition, although models of the ecclesial organisation vary among the confessions (episcopal, presbyterian, congregational, etc.). Even today, divergences concerning apostolic succession, the exercise of charismatic authority, or the relationship between ministry and the Eucharistic validity remain sensitive issues. Nevertheless, all agree that the essential mission of ordained ministry is to serve the Word and the sacraments in the power of the Spirit, for the sake of the visible unity of the Church and the witness of Christ in the world. The WCC, therefore, encourages the ongoing theological work aimed at a renewed christological and ecclesiological understanding of ministry, so that diversity may become a sign of communion rather than a source of division. |
