Abstract

This study seeks to answer the following questions: What colour names does Magdalena Samozwaniec write about? What do they refer to, and what stylistic functions do the colour names play? What parts of speech are the colours represented by, and what syntactic relationships do they enter into? The author of Zalotnica niebieska uses a rich palette of colours. The most common colours are black, white, red, green and pink. The colour lexis in this work refers to plants, animals, objects and emotions. Most colour names refer to flowers. Colours appear as a component of stylistic means and in titles of literary works. Colour names appear most often as epithets. In M. Samozwaniec’s text, the names of the colours discussed above mostly have real meaning and serve to describe reality. The studied material is dominated by simple adjectives, and there are few nouns. Adjectival modifiers occur at the highest frequency.
