Teatr końca czasu: Walery Briusow i dekadencka wizja przyszłości

Abstract

This sketch analyses three of Valery Briusov’s dramas: The Earth, The Day of Terrible Judgement and The World of Seven Generations. All these dramas were constructed in accordance with the ideas and theories of theatre reform. The Earth reflects the assumptions of the first stage of the reform, The World of Seven Generations the second, The Day of Terrible Judgement the expressionist montage. All of them are a projection of the end of the world and of the annihilation of humanity. After analysing the tests, the author concludes that it is constitutive for Briusov’s text to show the end, which is inevitable. Each of the theatrical concepts has been used only for this purpose, which leads to the conclusion that for the author of the text, every progression leads to the apocalypse.
