Abstract

The author of this essay observes that the memory of Gabriela Zapolska is lost in 21st-century Lviv. She proposes a hypothesis: “I am convinced that we must revive the memory of Zapolska as an important, and continually present in this city and in the Lviv text, person (persona). Hopefully, this cause will be supported by researchers, i.e. specialists on Zapolska. Then, the objective of such actions would not need any explanation. Otherwise, it should be emphasized that she spent here many years of her life, and lived here permanently from 1904 to her death in 1921, and created in this city timeless works of literature and drama and/or depicted in them Lviv. The purpose of actions aimed to restore the relations between Gabriela Zapolska and Lviv should not be overlooked: their knowledge and understanding, especially among younger generations of Poles visiting the city and Ukrainians, its today’s citizens, could naturally encourage those people to study the secrets of her writing and notice that it expresses a gesture of solidarity with the degraded, destroyed by the then social system”.
