Фигуры меланхoлии в контексте болгарского символизма

Abstract

The object of research of the present article is the poetics of melancholy in the context of Bulgarian symbolist-secessionist literature from the beginning of the 20th century, as an insufficiently studied territory of literary life. The topic has been relevant since the beginning of the 21st century in Bulgarian scientific circles, as evidenced by the research of B. Penchev, N. Dimitrov, B. Dakova, etc., related to the clarification of the essence of secession in Bulgaria. The present article, in connection with the increased interest in this topic, builds a unique psychography of melancholy in the context of the structure of feelings, highlighting its ambivalent essence, considering it as a philosophical-aesthetic manifestation of the artistic consciousness of the artist, painfully rejecting reality. The study aims to clarify what the decorative language of melancholy is in the context of Bulgarian symbolism in search of a universal language for expressing what is happening in the human soul. Using the method of semiotics and hermeneutics, the present text distinguishes as a visual code various figures of melancholy (floral, anthropological, temporal): floral images, the melancholic woman, the melancholic landscape, precious stones, colors, mythological images. The research highlights the intertextual connection with texts of Western European and Slavic modernism (S. Baudelaire, K.-P. Tetmayer, S. Przybyszewski).
