    dc.description.BiographicalnoteProf. MACIEJ PERKOWSKI is a lawyer and professor of legal sciences, affiliated with the Faculty of Law at the University of Białystok. He serves as the president of the Law and Partnership Foundation and heads the Department of Public International and European Law. He coordinates the Europe Direct Podlaskie team under a mandate from the European Commission. Prof. Perkowski has authored or co--authored over 200 publications and participated in numerous national and international conferences. His primary research areas include public international law, EU law, and international relations law. He is actively engaged in the protection of rights for individuals with disabilities, particularly those on the autism spectrum. His interest in this field was sparked by the enrollment of Poland’s first non-verbal autistic student, Maciej Oksztulski, at his faculty, whom he became a supervisor for. Their collaborative work—first within a master’s seminar and later during doctoral studies—resulted in several scientific publications focused on the rights of adults on the autism spectrum and various research projects. Notably, Prof. Perkowski supervised Oksztulski’s doctoral thesis titled „International Legal Standards for the Right to Education and Their Practical Implementation by National Scientific Institutions Concerning Students on the Autism Spectrum: A Comparative Analysis with Particular Emphasis on Poland and the United States,” which was defended in December 2021. In this project, Prof. Perkowski serves as both coordinator and researcher in legal matters.pl
    dc.description.BiographicalnoteDr. MACIEJ OKSZTULSKI made history in 2010 as Poland’s first non-verbal autistic high school graduate. In 2015, he completed his law degree at the University of Białystok, defending a master’s thesis titled „The Right to Work for Persons with Disabilities—Autism in Law and Practice (A Case Study of Podlaskie Voivodeship),” earning a master’s degree with distinction. He began his doctoral studies on October 1, 2015, and participated as a researcher in the NO-AUTism! project, which focused on education and personal development for doctoral students with autism—an initiative that included a research internship at Syracuse University in the USA from November 12 to 19, 2017. During his doctoral studies from 2015 to 2020, he published several papers and actively participated in scientific conferences. Due to his significant academic achievements, he received multiple scholarships as a doctoral student from 2016 to 2019, including those awarded by the rector for top doctoral candidates, a doctoral scholarship, a grant from quality improvement funding, and support for students with disabilities. In November 2020, he received a grant under the National Science Centre’s Preludium 19 program for his project titled „Theoretically Eligible? The Legal Status of Persons on the Autism Spectrum in the Labor Market (A National, International, and Comparative Perspective).” On December 21, 2021, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled „International Legal Standards for the Right to Education and Their Practical Implementation by National Scientific Institutions Concerning Students on the Autism Spectrum: A Comparative Analysis with Particular Emphasis on Poland and the United States.” On January 21, 2022, he was awarded a doctorate in social sciences in legal sciences by Resolution No. 350 of the Discipline Council for Legal Sciences at the University of Białystok. Following this achievement, he received the Minister of Education and Science Award on February 19, 2022, for significant accomplishments in scientific activities. Dr. Oksztulski’s professional interests include international law, human rights, and disability rights with a particular focus on autism rights. Despite being an autistic individual with significant disabilities, he serves as an assistant professor at the University of Białystok. He is also a data analyst for Europe Direct Podlaskie (preparing summaries of judgments from the Court of Justice of the European Union for websites), an advocate in SYNAPSIS Foundation projects, and a volunteer for „Oswoić Świat” Founda tion in Białystok. He is a member of several advisory councils, including the Council for Persons with Disabilities at the Commissioner for Human Rights, an advisory team for the Parliamentary Group on Autism in Poland’s Sejm (lower house), and the Youth Council in Podlaskie Assembly of Persons with Disabilities. In this project, he served as both researcher and participant in inclusive training for assistants trained to support autistic individuals.pl
    dc.description.BiographicalnoteMgr WOJCIECH ZOŃ is also a lawyer and researcher at the Faculty of Law at the University of Białystok, where he serves as vice president of the Law and Partnership Foundation. He works daily at the Department of Public International Law at UwB and is also responsible for organization at Europe Direct Podlaskie. Additionally, he is an expert at UwB’s Legal Research Center on Education and serves as secretary for „Eastern European Journal of Transnational Relations.” He has authored or co-authored several scientific publications across various areas of international law and EU law, including rights related to individuals on the autism spectrum. He has participated in numerous conferences, seminars, or scientific meetings as well as several national and international projects concerning education and disability rights. He was awarded „Active Student” recognition for outstanding achievements in scientific and organizational activities during the academic year 2014/2015 by UwB’s Faculty of Law; Santander Universidades Award from Bank Zachodni WBK in 2015 for academic achievements and social engagement; and received a scholarship from Poland’s Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding scholarly achievements during academic year 2015/2016. As a research employee: he was awarded a scholarship from Poland’s Minister of Education and Science for outstanding young researchers in 2022. In this project, he contributed to legal research as well as training and expert support for assistants working with educated individuals on the autism spectrum.pl
    dc.description.BiographicalnoteDr. IZABELA KACZYŃSKA holds a doctorate in social sciences specializing in pedagogy (UMCS). She previously completed her master’s degree at the University of Białystok (in Pedagogy with a specialization in Care-Educational Pedagogy). She also completed postgraduate studies specializing in Pedagogical Therapy as well as Autism—Education and Rehabilitation of Individuals on the Autism Spectrum. She is developing her interests towards psychotherapy and psychotraumatology. Dr. Kaczyńska has authored scientificarticles related to academic functioning among students, master-student relationships (including contexts related to autism), as well as areas concerning career success and support for young people along their career paths. She has worked extensively with children with disabilities including those on the autism spectrum over many years. She continually enhances her professional skills by participating in training sessions, supervisions, and scientific training conferences. In this project, she supported assistants by conducting training sessions focused on understanding issues related to individuals on the autism spectrum while also participating practically by supervising assistants’ work.pl
