Abstract

The reference to the role Miłosz played in the seizure of power and its exercise in People's Poland and the People's Republic of Poland is the starting point for the analysis of the accounts with Marxism, doctrinal Hegelianism and the theory of Ketman as well as ideology being "a new faith" he tried to square in his novels (The Seizure of Power [Zdobycie władzy]) and essays before and after the war (most notably in The Captive Mind [Zniewolony umysł]). The author shows that as a early as before the war Miłosz was more than ready to give in to the temptation of making a career in a communist state. The article shows that having experienced the 20th century totalitarianisms, the poet could draw on it to get the insight into his inner being, into the ethical nature of human 'me'; it attempts to show Miłosz's thoughts when struggling with the etiology of race, class and especially Soviet communism.
