Uwagi o pokoleniu podlaskich filomatów i filaretów

Abstract

The article addresses the issue of the Philomath generation from a regional (Podlasie) perspective with reference to the group’s borderland features. In addition to demonstrating the interest of the Philomaths in what is related to the place and its peculiarities (for example, language and history), the “borderland-ness” of the biography of the Podlasie Philomaths and Philarets is evidenced, among other things, by the frequent necessity to move also within the borderlands, resulting from the place of residence, as well as the diversity of the community, often associated with a little-known place translated into limited knowledge of the biographies of subsequent Philomaths – and so borderland-ness is expressed in this case in bringing out of „oblivion” the Philomaths who were less well-known, but associated with the region.
