Abstract

The article discusses the impact of the sociopolitical transformations of the 1990s on the shaping of the identity of the individual – Alhierd Bacharevič and the community – the nation. In the memoir Мае дзевяностыя, the author recalls events important for his personal dimensions, such as the choice of language and career path. Moreover, it also refers to those that are important for Belarusians, such as the 1995 referendum or the presidential elections. He also marks the moment when Alexandr Lukashenka’s policy changed its direction. It also evaluates the transitions at the end of the last century. It depends on the perspective taken. The author evaluates his own choices positively, he has no regrets. However, in relation to the nation, he perceives the period of change negatively.
